Baron Von Blume, born in 1620, entered a monastery and adopted for name the Greek translation of the word Anthos, a flower; but later he left the monastery and married his cousin the Baroness Von Blume, who was the Superior of a convent at Maintz. They changed their faith, becoming Protestants, and emigrated to America, where they assumed the name of Antes.

Count Henry von Blume was an ecclesiastic, who married his cousin, a baroness, who was then a superior in a convent at Mayence. They became Protestant, and were victims of the awful convulsions of Europe in the 1620’s, and were among those who hid themselves and changed their name from the German to the Greek form – “Anttos.”

Since Baron Von Blume and his wife were Catholics and had to flee their country they found themselves in Greece. They changed their German name Von Blume (flower) to the Greek equivalent (Anthros) later changed to Antes. Many Barons found refuge in the Baltic regions. After living in Greece, they left for America.
