So far as is known, Richard S. Carr, only one of the four Carr brothers of Pike Township, who was wounded, recovered and returned from the Civil War.

He is the only Civil War veteran from this section who also served in the Spanish-American War from Kentucky.

His daughter, Mrs. Rura (Carr) Barker, for a time lived in Curwensville and organized Rhoda Rebekah Lodge No. 347. Mrs. Frank Leech is a great-niece of Colonel (Spanish-American) Carr.2370

Richard Carr was the fourth brother of the Carr family who volunteered to fight for his country. He was the only one of the four who ever returned, and here carries on his person two minnie balls to remind him of the fact that he was a brave soldier.2143
