Pat and Goldie [his first wife] moved from Logan County, West Virginia, to Minerva, Ohio, in 1966 [sic]. He got a job delivering dairy products on a route, however, after a short time he became a coal miner and retired in 1965, after 20 years of service with the United Mine Workers. They enjoyed furniture covering and woodworking. In his spare time, he like[d] to tinker with radios.
They were members of the Waynesburg Free Will Baptist Church of Waynesburg, Ohio. He was an ordained minister and was an adult Sunday school teacher for many years. In March 1991, Goldie passed away as a result of cancer.

With Pat’s five children and Helen’s six children, they had a family of eleven. Each Christmas eve they would all get together, bring their favorite dishes and share the holiday.
