George B. Shugarts, 95, Former County Jury Commissioner, Dies

George Brinton Shugarts, who served as a jury commissioner in the Clearfield County Courts for 16 years, died yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock following a long illness. He was 95 years of age.

Mr. Shugarts was born in Knox Township, Clearfield County, Oct. 17, 1862, a son of Henry B. and Mary Shugarts. In 1881 he married the former Ida Wisor and they resided in Boggs Township until the death of Mrs. Shugarts in 1947 when he moved to Clearfield.

In addition to serving as a jury commissioner, he was also a Forest fire warden for 30 years. His other affiliations included membership in the Eagles Lodge of Clearfield.

Surviving him are the following sons and daughters: Frank, West Decatur; Fred, Clearfield; Mrs. Anna Knepp, Olanta; and Mrs. Helen McGaughey, Clearfield R.D. 3.

He also leaves two sisters: Mrs. Jennie Watkins of Alhambra, Calif., and Mrs. Nettie Straw of Clearfield; 49 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by five children: Mrs. Alma Wilsoncroft, Foster, Date, Blake and Mrs. Tressie Good.

Funeral Services will be from the Leavy Funeral Home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial following in the Stoneville Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday afternoon and evening and until time of services Friday.

George served as a Justice of the Peace, township supervisor, and treasurer of the school board for Boggs Township, Clearfield County. He had been involved in lumbering and mining work prior to buying his farms in Boggs Township.

His mother was Elizabeth Schlabigh

he was married to Ida Wisor on June 12, 1881 in Shaw House, Clearfield, PA by Daniel Connelly, Esq.
