Grier Bell … was the first white child born in the county. He was so named after Rev. Grier, of Williamsport, who came to baptize him.

Here, [in Pike Township] in 1799, was born his eldest child Grier Bell, who was the first male child born in Clearfield county. Grier was named after Rev. Grier, a Presbyterian clergyman, of Williamsport, who traveled all that distance in a canoe to baptise him. Sometime after his marriage, Grier Bell purchased lands in Ferguson township and moved there. Here he died Feb. 27, 1886.
