Samuel lived on the old Bloom homestead in Lower Augusta (now Rockefeller) township now owned by Urias Bloom, his great-grandson, a property which consisted of nearly two hundered acres and which he purchased in 1797 from Martine Baker and wife.

Samuel Bloom was a prominent man of his day, taking an active part in the work of the Democratic party and holding various importnt offices with honor and credit.

Ob Feb. 28, 1809, he was commissioned justice of the peace and served many years; from 1813 to 1815 he was county commissioner; and he was county treasurer in 1834-36. He served as postmaster at what was then known as Augusta, but which office has since been abandoned.

He and his wife were Lutherans, and he was particularly prominent in the organization of the Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church at Augustaville, toward the erection of which he contributed generously; he was a charter member of this church and was serving as it’s treasurer at the time of his death. He and his wife are buried there.
