Charles A. Thorpe the only son of the original William Thorp to settle here in 1838 was born at Lewisville on June 20, 1844. It was in 1877 that Charles inherited the Thorp estate and true to his fathers following entered the lumbering and rafting industry. Charles was a pilot on rafts for 35 years and eventually settled down to farming for his livelihood. He was married to Hannah Johnson the daughter of James Johnson who operated the first woolen mill in Clearfield County. The mill was located at Johnsonville which is about 2 miles north of Curry Run on the road from Curry run to Grampian. Mr. Thorpe spent his entire life in Curry Run and was considered a prominent and substantial member of the community. He was a lifelong member of the Grange and served on the school board also.5803
