Mrs. F. Ruth Nelson, 64, of 610 Boyce St., Clearfield, died Wednesday, July 22, at 9:80 a.m. at the Clearfield Hospital.

Born in Pittsburgh, Nov. 23, 1922, she was a daughter of Claire M. (Shaffer) Hagan. She was raised in Clearfield by Mr. and Mrs. John (Ethel) Dunlap, both deceased.

She was a 1940 graduate of Clearfield Area High School and was a former employee of W.T. Grant Co., Clearfield.

She was an active member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Wolf Run, and she served the church in various capacities. She had serviced as a volunteer worker at the "Cottage" at the Clearfield Hospital, was an active member and held several offices in the Christian Women's Club and was an active member of Woman's Clubs of America.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her husband, Eldon, whom she married June 11, 1941, four children: Darlene Leonard of Albuquerque, N.M.; Cheryl Bodle and David Nelson, both of Clearfield, and J. Scott Nelson of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren; on sister, Delores Rush of Detroit, Mich., and one step-brother, John Dunlap of Parkersburg, W.Va.

Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents and her stepparents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church with the Rev. Duane White officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park.

Friends may call at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, on Friday from 2 to 9 p.m.

The family suggests that contributions be made to the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.

Funeral services for Eldon Nelson, 92, of Clearfield will be held at Clearfield Christian and Missionary Alliance Church on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m., with Dr. Duane White officiating.

He passed away Friday, Feb. 15.

Interment will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Military honors will be accorded at the church by the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade post No. 6 and Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785 Honor Guard.

Friends will be received at The Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, on Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 21, at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of services.

Born Nov. 26, 1920, at Clearfield, he was a son of Ai William and Pearl (Miller) Nelson.

Mr. Nelson attended the Clearfield Schools.

He was a coal miner for his uncle, Arnold Nelson, worked as a floral designer for Collins; Greenhouse and a metal worker in construction in Washington, D.C., before being called to serve in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Nelson was a veteran, having served as a sergeant in the 380th Combat Engineering Company A, was in World War II in The Philippines and occupational Army of Japan. He received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Ribbon, Army Occupation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

After returning from the war, Eldon worked as an offset-journeyman pressman for Kurtz Bros. for 38 years before retiring in 1985.

He was a member of Clearfield Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he served on the board of directors and as an elder. Prior to that, Eldon was a trustee and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Clearfield. Eldon was known as a spiritual leader to family and friends.

Eldon was an avid gardener and well known for sharing his harvest with family and friends. In his younger years, he enjoyed baking pies, cookies, fruit cakes and zucchini bread.

He is survived by four children, Darlene Leonard and her husband, Dale, of Albuquerque, N.M., Cherly Robison and her husband, Chuck, of Clearfield, David Nelson and his wife, Judy, of Glen Richey and John Scott Nelson and his wife, Sharon, of Harrisburg; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Nelson and his wife, Betty; four sisters, Shirley Lansberry, Jane Shugarts and her husband, Max, Carol Catherman and her husband, James, and Ruth Bock and her husband, William, all of Clearfield; and three sisters-in-law, Janet Nelson and Dorothy Nelson, both of Clearfield, and Ruth Nelson of Pittsburgh.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances Ruth (Dunlap) Nelson, whom he wed July 22, 1941, and who, passed away July 22, 1987; three brothers, Willard Nelson, Richard Nelson, and Sherman Nelson; a sister, Ella Mae Lindvall and her husband, John; and a sister-in-law, Susie Nelson.
