Misc. Notes
Joseph Lines, the father of Jesse Lines, was born in 1795 [1797 in some sources†] in Chester County, Pennsylvania, but was reared in Nittany Valley, Centre County, where Joseph’s father, Nathaniel Lines (1757-1814), and Joseph’s mother Sara (married in 1792) lived for a number of years; Nathaniel Lines died there when Joseph was about seventeen years of age.
Joseph Lines lived in New Mexico, Pennsylvania. The town may be in the region of Winfield in Union County today. Joseph’s father Nathaniel had four sons. Joseph was the second in order of birth.
As early as 1827, Joseph Lines brought his family to Brady Township, Clearfield County, locating within a mile of Luthersburg where he purchased a 150-acre timberland and developed a farm. He first built a log house and barn, but these were afterwards replaced by more modern frame structures, and all the improvements upon the place were of a substantial character.
There he died on March 17, 1870 at the age of approximately 75 years, and his wife who holds the maiden name of Elizabeth Peoples passed away two years later.

I have seen the Will of Joseph Lines Sr. and nowhere (including his tombstone) is the middle inital L recorded.

In the 1860 census, Joseph and Elizabeth were living with a son Eli (Elias?, age 23), Samuel Peoples (age 52) (brother of Elizabeth) and Esther Laborde House Maid (age 19). [The compiler of this database recalls seeing at least one headstone for two Laborde family members in June2016]. The 1860 census indicated Joseph and Eluzabeth owned real estate valued at $3500. Their home neighbored that of son Thomas. Joseph’s brother Isaac also lived close.

This source shows his birth year as 1795 but inaccurately identifies him as "John."

I have copies of both Joseph [father] and Joseph [son] Wills that seem to list quite a few relatives and the decendents. This source also shows his birth year as 1795.

*Plurisy is an inflammation of the cavity surrounding the lungs. The inflamed pleureal layers rub against each other every time the lungs expand to breathe in air. This can cause severe sharp pain with inhalation.

†Joseph’s birth year has been entered as 1796 which will not conflict with his brother William’s date which is also thought to be 1795. See also birth date source regarding calculation.
3Census records indicate Joseph’s age at 53 in 1850 appears to verify this birth year. Also had land valued at $3000 in 1850.
