After graduating from tech school for firefighting in the Air Force I spent sixteen days of leave at home in Maryland with my mother. This was in March of 1972. During the same time Eugene, who was in the Army, and stationed somewhere in the area, visited with us. I recall the two of us played several games of chess to wile away our hours of leisure there in my mother’s apartment.
Later I spent a few weekends at his parent's home when I was in the Air Force and in school at the Department of Defense Information School in Indianapolis. It's been a long time, but memories of him and his family are great ones.
I haven’t seen Eugene since we sat across from one another at the chess board, but we have in recent years become reacquainted with one another via Facebook.com.1060
