Obituary

Nathaniel Speas of Albion, an old resident of the Ferguson and Bethel Grove neighborhoods, died Sunday morning at his home in Albion from the effects of a fracture of a hip bone suffered June 7 and age ailments. The injury was the result of a fall. Mr. Speas settled near Ferguson in the spring of 1858 and sixteen years ago went to Iowa Township and lived in the Bethel Grove neighborhood and in Albion. He was born December 4, 1840 in Owen County, Indiana, the son of Peter and Mary Speas. He was married to Miss Mary E. Hilsabeck, September 25, 1863. She died March 21, 1886 and he was married the second time to Mrs. Anna E. Gaston, April 1897, near Ferguson.

Surviving with the widow are the children. Jon M. Speas, Montezuma; M.F. Speas, James W. Speas and Mrs. Wallie Powers, Gilma; Charles A. Speas, Grinnell, Mrs. A.G. Miller, Kellogg; O.V. Speas, city; Mrs. D.E. Brush and Mrs. J.E. Hoopengardner, Ferguson. A brother, J.A. Speas, of Worthington, Indiana is living. The funeral will be held Wednesday at the Christian church at Ferguson at 2 o'clock. There will be a prayer service at the home in Albion at 12 o'clock. Burial will be in the Timber Creek cemetery.
